In its sixth year, the Open Mind Film Festival invites high school students across the country to produce short films telling their personal stories about mental health and wellness. Over 275 films were submitted this year and the festival will be held on Sunday, April 26 at 1pm at the James Bridges Theater on the UCLA campus. Hosting the event and performing songs from her recently released album is singer/songwriter Em Beihold.
At the festival we will screen finalist films that have been evaluated by a panel of judges with experience in filmmaking and/or mental health and by members of the Friends of the Semel Institute Teen Advisory Council. Presentation of awards for the First and Second Place films as well as the Friends Choice and Best Animation films will be conducted by actress and mental health advocate, Sarah Gilman; the Perception Box award will be presented by members of the Teen Advisory Council.
Join us to walk the red carpet, visit with young filmmakers of the future, and watch the films on the big screen. Admission to the festival is free, but registration is required.
